Borosilicate Glass Drainage
Borosilicate Glass Drainage has been utilised by hospitals, universities and numerous research establishments for many years. It has established its position as the ultimate material for the disposal of aggressive chemicals and high temperature effluents.
All current glass borosilicate drain line systems are manufactured with expensive flanged or beaded end profiles and joint assemblies. Stanfield with their Plain End System have eliminated these expensive end treatments. The benefits of this Plain End System include, ease of installation, total flexibility for the user including refurbishment and upgrading of laboratories.
The Plain End System now ensures that borosilicate glass drain line, recognised throughout the industry as the ultimate pipe work system for the conveyance of aggressive liquids, is now affordable.
The system PETM incorporates all the traditional features of the existing drainage design with one major facility, transparency, which enables continuous monitoring of the installation and enables a debris-free system to be handed to the client, the maintenance of such an installation being minimal in that blockages which, in themselves are extremely rare are easily located and cleared.

Composition
Borosilicate glass is manufactured from a chemical composition which includes silica, boric oxide, soda and alumina.
The Plain End drainage is coupled together by means of a compression coupling comprising of a stainless steel shell, thick wedge of resilient elastomer; which engages a PTFE liner/gasket around the pipe ends.
Nominal Bore Diameters
Nominal bore diameters are available in DN25, DN40, DN50 DN80 and DN100.
Mechanical Properties
- Compressive – 5000 ib/IN2 for borosilicate glass
- Tensiles – 5000Ib/IN2 for borosilicate glass
- Thermal expansion – Temperature range 0-300°C is 33 x 10-7°C
Fire Resistance
Borosilicate glass pipes have undergone specific tests carried out by the fire research establishment at Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, the conditions of BS476 Part 8 being satisfactorily met.

Maintenance
The visual facility enjoyed by the Plain End System enables continuous inspection of the Pipework , thus eliminating the hitherto unknown build-up and blockage of the system. Should this ever occur, the ease with which the system can be dismantled and re-assembled, assures rapid clearance of the problem.
Should drain rods be used it is strongly advised that non-metallic ferrules and attachments are used, e.g nylon or similar. To eliminate this we would recommend periodic cleansing of the system with chemicals that are readily available.
Flexibility
Modifications and refurbishments of drainline systems can easily be made with the Borosilicate Glass Plain End PE System by simply cutting through pipe work introducing new fittings and reassembling with the push fit plain end couplings.
