Maintenance of Glass Traps
To comply with requirements of Department of Health Technical Memorandum 03-01 it is essential that an Inspection & Maintenance regime be implemented to ensure that Glass Traps are functioning correctly.
It is recommended that the inspection is carried out at 13 week intervals by a competent person with proper records kept detailing who carried out inspection, detailing location, faults and corrective action where required.
In the first instance the colour of the water in the trap should be inspected to check the cleanliness and that the trap is free from debris. The colour of the water will give an indication to any problem or fault within the system.
When necessary the trap should be removed by disassembling the inlet & outlet couplings and removing trap. Trap then should be immersed in hot soapy water cleaning utilising a nylon brush or similar.
Trap should then be refitted ensuring that inlet & outlet couplings are correctly tightened. Filler cap should be removed and trap filled with water to create seal. Water seal to be dosed with a biocide tablet and then cap refitted.
